Where to go shopping in Edinburgh?
Edinburgh is the perfect shopping destination for anyone looking to indulge in some retail therapy or find a special gift. On the high street, there are well-known brands and stylish boutiques, offering the latest trends and classic pieces. For something more unique, explore the independent shops, where you”ll discover unique and locally-made goods. Edinburgh is also a great place to pick up Scottish souvenirs, such as tartan, kilts and whisky. Here are some of the main shopping streets and areas in Edinburgh…
High street shopping
Princes Street is the main shopping street in the city with the most fantastic backdrop! Check out high street favourites, all in the shadows of the magnificent Edinburgh Castle. There is also an indoor shopping mall at the east end of Princes Street, Waverley Market beside Waverley Station, with a range of shops and eating outlets.

Luxury and designer stores
Just around the corner from Princes Street, the modern St James’ Quarter is a luxury shopping experience with a mix of high street and luxury shops, lots of bars and restaurants, and a cinema and bowling alley. George Street, set behind Princes Street, is also home to plenty of high end brands, cocktail bars and eateries. In addition, you can visit the famous Harvey Nichols department store in Edinburgh, and then take a stroll down Multrees Walk for the likes of Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Gucci.

Independent shops and boutiques
Take a wander through Edinburgh’s Old Town and you’ll find lots of unusual and quirky shops. The Grassmarket, Candlemaker Row, Victoria Street and Cockburn Street all have their gems to discover. Not forgetting the West End of Edinburgh, where William Street and Stafford Street are filled with designer boutiques and other independent retailers.

Souvenir shopping
For Edinburgh memorabilia, head to the famous Royal Mile. There you’ll find tourist shops selling tartan, whisky, shortbread and all things Scottish, alongside a great number of traditional pubs, landmarks and attractions.

Shopping centres
Perfect for a rainy day, there are a number of large indoor shopping malls outside of the city centre. Such as Ocean Terminal in Leith, Cameron Toll to the south of the city, and The Gyle to the west.

Retail Parks
Some of the larger high street stores and supermarkets are located in retail parks away from the city centre. These include Fort Kinnaird, Craigleith and Hermiston Gait. Straiton Retail Park also has a large IKEA.
