Edinburgh Playhouse
Address: 18-22 Greenside Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3AA
Edinburgh Playhouse is one of Edinburgh’s main theatre venues. Seating up to 3,059 people over three levels, it has the largest capacity of any traditional working theatre in the UK. The venue, which opened in 1929, was originally used a cinema, but it has been a full working theatre since 1980. Mostly staging touring musicals, comedy performances and live concerts.
Famously said to be haunted by a friendly ghost known as Albert the Stagehand, the theatre named their foyer bar “Albert’s” in his honour. There are a few bars and kiosks across the theatre, including Albert’s, where you can grab a drink and snack before the show or in the interval. You can also call into The Boards bar and restaurant for a pre-theatre meal and drinks.
