Location: Area just south of the city centre, near The Meadows
The Southside of Edinburgh is the area just south of the city centre, which includes Newington and Marchmont. It is home to much of the University of Edinburgh’s campus, making it a popular residential area for students. The area also appeals to families. It has several arts venues, such as Summerhall, the Queen’s Hall and the Festival Theatre. Plus, during the summer festivals, The Pleasance becomes a major performance venue for the Fringe. If you’re visiting the Southside, you’ll find plenty nearby to keep you busy. From relaxing in The Meadows, to exploring the many independent cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants.
The Southside offers a mix of family homes, student accommodation, cultural venues and green spaces.
