Queen’s Hall
Address: 85-89 Clerk Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9JG
The Queen’s Hall is a concert hall in the Newington area of Edinburgh, which hosts a varied programme of musical acts and performances. This 900-capacity covers a wide range of genres, such as classical, jazz, opera, rock, pop, folk and comedy. It sets the stage for many performances every summer, as part of the programme of Edinburgh festivals. It is also the main rehearsal and performance venue for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
The building was originally a church, built in 1823 and used as a place of worship until its closure in 1976. It was converted into a concert hall shortly afterwards. Queen Elizabeth II gave special permission for it to be named the Queen’s Hall, and she officially opened it 1979. Today, it hosts a programme of over 200 shows a year, welcoming world-class artists from all over the world.
