Scottish Storytelling Centre
Address: 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1SR
The Scottish Storytelling Centre is located on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s Old Town, a place with a rich history and many stories of its own. The centre hosts live storytelling events, theatre, music, exhibitions, festival events, family events, craft fairs and workshops. It contains a specialist book shop, with a wide selection of story books for all ages. It also runs two annual festivals; The Scottish International Storytelling Festival and Edinburgh TradFest.
This was the first modern purpose-built live storytelling centre in the world. Opening in 2006, it’s a relatively new addition to the Royal Mile. However, it adjoins one of its oldest buildings, John Knox House, which dates from 1470. The two buildings are linked, and share an entrance. The centre administers the house and runs story tours of it and the surrounding Netherbow area.
