Figgate Park

This recreational park lies to the east of Edinburgh, between the areas of Duddingston and Portobello. Known as Figgate Park, Figgate Burn Park or Figgie Park, it is named after the Figgate Burn, a distinctive stream that runs through it. The name figgate is thought to be a Saxon word meaning cattle-gait, once used for the local area of moorland where cattle would have grazed.
The park opened officially in 1936 and has become a popular place to walk, play and relax. There is a pond with a boardwalk and plenty of wildlife to spot, including ducks, swans, kingfishers, foxes, bats and otters. Also there’s a children’s playpark, teen area, picnic tables, wildflower meadow and space to walk, jog or cycle.
