Circus Lane

Address: Circus Lane, Edinburgh, EH3 6SU

Circus Lane is a picturesque cobbled street in Edinburgh. This residential street with pretty flower-covered terraced mews houses has gained fame in recent years due to its “instagramability”. It’s a great place to enjoy a short walk and take some photos. Located in Stockbridge to the north east of the city centre, there are plenty of quirky shops, bars and restaurants to explore in the nearby area.

The lane was originally used for stable workers and other employees who lived in service to rich New Town families. The now colourful garages were once stables, where the horses were kept. At the end of the lane, on neighbouring St Stephen’s Street, is the imposing St Stephen’s Church. An A-listed building designed by William Henry Playfair. The high tower is 49m tall and has the longest clock pendulum in Europe. It is now used as a community venue.
