Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, Sun 30 Dec 2018 – Tue 1 Jan 2019, Edinburgh City Centre.

Edinburgh’s New Year celebrations (called Hogmanay in Scotland) are world famous. Tourists flock from all over the globe to experience the electric atmosphere and enjoy spectacular events – all set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The three day festival welcomes around 150,000 revellers each year. This year brings another packed programme of events.

Details have already been announced for a spectacular celebration created to see in the year 2019.

Pre-Hogmanay Celebrations

Events begin on 30th December with the incredibly popular Torchlight Procession. A family event where thousands of torch carriers illuminate the city, led by massed pipes and drums. You can view the fireworks finale across the city and beyond. This year, there is also a Symphonic Ibiza concert, mixing a live 15 piece orchestra with high tempo Ibiza beats at the stunning McEwan Hall.

Hogmanay Events

Tens of thousands of revellers will come to Edinburgh on New Year’s Eve for 7 special events. Families with young children can celebrate together before the bells with Baby Loves Disco and Bairns Afore. Then later in the evening choose from the Candlelit Concert, Hogmanay HQ, Ceilidh Under the Castle, the Street Party and Concert in the Gardens, headlined this year by Franz Ferdinand. This feast of entertainment and live music ends with a dazzling Midnight Fireworks display, which is broadcast globally in over 150 countries to an audience of over 1 billion people.

New Year’s Day

Then on New Year’s Day, kick up your heels at the First Footers Family Ceilidh. Enjoy folk music from the likes of Capercaillie and Carlos Nunez. Or, there’s the Loony Dook for those brave enough to take a dip in the freezing Firth of Forth.

More Festive Fun

Don’t forget, Edinburgh’s Christmas celebrations are also still on. Lots of fun and festive attractions here in the city until 6th January.
