On Saturday, my friends and I were supposed to be going to Wagamama on Lothian Road for dinner. We arrived at around 7.30pm but the staff said that they couldn’t take us that evening because their system for sending orders to the kitchen had gone down. (We did wonder what was wrong with good old pen and paper!).
So, we called in to The Huxley, just round the corner on Rutland Street instead. It was a busy night but luckily they had a table available. It turned out to be an excellent venue for us. We all like our cocktails, so we ordered one each. The dinner menu had an American theme with lots of burgers, hot dogs, ribs, wings and nachos. Most of us ordered burgers, as there was a good selection on offer.
I went for a Summer Daze cocktail with Absolut Mandarin, Cointreau, lime, mango and pineapple. It was a lovely refreshing drink on quite a hot, muggy evening. To eat, I had a Classic Grilled Beef Burger with cheese and bacon, served with chips. The food was delicious, especially the hand-cut chips. Very generous portions too!
Instead of dessert … we had more cocktails! This time I tried the Black Heart Daiquiri with Brugal Anejo Rum, crème de mure blackberry liqueur, lime, blackberries and Stout. Another good choice.
We had a lovely time at The Huxley. It’s a nice, modern restaurant. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the food and drinks were great. Most of the cocktails were £7 or £8, and the burgers were all under £10. I thought this was good value and would definitely go back.
