I met up with a couple of friends at Taste Of Italy yesterday. We were looking for somewhere with good food and reasonably priced. The all-day Italian diner at the top of Leith Walk seemed like a good choice. I expected the food to be good as it is owned by the Vittoria Group, who run a few nice Italian restaurants in Edinburgh, and the menu looked good value for money. Taste of Italy is the only one of their restaurants where you can’t book in advance, due to its informal style. We were eating early though, so we weren’t too worried about that.
I didn’t like the look of the tall tables and high stools when I first walked in, but I think that is more of a cafe area for people getting a drink and light snack. There were more comfortable booths towards the back, where we were seated. Although it was busy, we had no trouble getting a table.
They had a choice of light bites, pizza, pasta and the usual Italian options. Service was quick and friendly. We all ordered pizza for mains and ice-cream sundaes for dessert. I went for a 10″ pizza with chicken, bacon and peppers, and a Caramel Fantasia Sundae. The food was basic, but fresh and tasty.
I enjoyed our little trip to Taste Of Italy. It’s a good place to go for a quick bite or an informal meal with friends, especially if you’re on a budget. Our bill worked out at £13 each for 2 courses and drinks. For more of a treat I would look at one of the Vittoria Group’s other restaurants, as they have fancier food and surroundings.
