The Magnum on Albany Street recently invited me to review their restaurant. I hadn’t heard of the place before but the menu looked very tempting, so I went along on Saturday with my husband for dinner. It isn’t often the two of us get out for dinner on our own, so we were really looking forward to it!
The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived, which is usually a good sign. It had a nice, cosy atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming. They gave us a nice table by a window covered in fairy lights.
There was a good selection of wines to choose from and a lovely modern Scottish menu. I ordered the Buccleuch Haggis Spring Roll with Barbeque Hickory Relish and a Rocket Salad for my starter. I think this was actually the nicest haggis I have ever tasted. Although I wouldn’t have thought of putting it in a spring roll, it went very well indeed.
For main course I had Scottish Rib Eye Steak with Redcurrant Jus, Hand Cut Chips and Grilled Baby Tomatoes. This was delicious! The steak was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. There was quite a big portion, but it was too nice to leave any.
Finally, I had Rich Chocolate Tart with Popcorn Ice Cream for dessert. I’m a chocoholic so had to go for this option. It was just as yummy as it sounds. Popcorn Ice Cream – fabulous idea!
I would thoroughly recommend a visit to The Magnum as a special treat. The restaurant is warm and inviting, the food is wonderful and the service is excellent. What more could you want? The average price for a three course meal on the current menu, excluding drinks is £28.50 per person. You can view the sample menu on their website.
