It’s been a while since my last blog post because I had a baby boy in February, so as you can imagine I’ve been very busy! Now we are nicely settling into life as a family of four and starting to get out and about again.
Last weekend we decided to try out the phenomenon that is Krispy Kreme. I remember the opening of the store at Hermiston Gait Retail Park two years ago brought traffic to a stand still, as doughnut lovers queued for hours to get their hands on the famous sugar-glazed treats. The hype has died down a bit now, but it’s still a popular place for both eating in and taking away.
The cafe was busy when we arrived. The whole place looked like it needed a good clean, with dirty tables and empty wrappers all over the floor. We managed to find somewhere to sit straight away and a member of staff came over to wipe our table.
Along the back of the room, where you queue up to order, you can watch hundreds of doughnuts moving along the production line, which is quite fun. Then you come to shelves filled with every flavour of doughnut and have the difficult task of choosing what to have. My husband and I picked three to share; Chocolate Dreamcake, Strawberries and Kreme and Caramel Crunch. My two year old had a Chocolate Iced Ring. I don’t even like doughnuts usually, but these had the most delicious toppings and fillings, so they tasted amazing. The tea and coffee was good too. There were no plates or cutlery provided, which I found disappointing. On the plus side though, they did have hats and balloons for the kids.
We had fun but overall I was unimpressed with the ‘eating in’ experience. The doughnuts are extremely tasty, but if we go again we’ll probably get a box to take away. Maybe next time we’ll just use the Drive-Thru.
