Last weekend my husband and I took our 2 year old daughter and 5 month old son for a day out at Edinburgh Zoo. I reviewed Edinburgh Zoo last year, so won’t go into too much detail, but we all had fun as usual. The only thing I will say is that we were very disappointed not to see the giant pandas for the second year in a row. The female is possibly pregnant again, so they were only allowing visitors to the enclosure who had pre-booked their slot on the website at least 24 hours in advance. It was a last-minute decision for us to go to the zoo, so we hadn’t pre-booked anything. Never mind, we’ll see them one day I’m sure!
Anyway, over the summer the zoo is hosting a new attraction called Dinosaurs Return!, which we were all looking forward to seeing. My daughter loves playing with her toy dinosaurs and has been learning all the names, so I thought this would be a great way for her to learn more about them.
The attraction was very impressive. Several life-sized robotic dinosaurs filled an area of the zoo. I just expected static models, but they were moving and making noises too. You could get up very close to them, which made for fantastic photo opportunities.
The problem was, our daughter was completely terrified! We unfortunately had to rush through the whole thing. It was such a shame, as it really was brilliant. But we couldn’t persuade her to stay. She just clung onto her Daddy as we whizzed through. I hung back a bit to take some photos, but must have only been there about 5 minutes. The good news was we were at the zoo, so there were lots of other things to do to cheer her up afterwards.
Dinosaurs Return! is on at the zoo until 1st November and is amazing. There were lots of other children of all different ages enjoying themselves, so don’t let our experience put you off. Just be aware it may scare some little ones.
