I had a lovely evening out at Café Rouge on Frederick Street with my friends recently. I like these Parisienne style bistros, but we don’t tend to go very often as they can be quite pricey in comparison to similar restaurant chains. This time we had a voucher for 50% off food, so it was the perfect excuse for a visit.
We were seated at the front of the restaurant at a nice table by the window. It was quite busy as it was a Saturday night, but the service was very quick and friendly. I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon – slow-cooked beef in red wine, smoked bacon and mushrooms with roasted carrots, herb mash and crispy onions. It was a very tasty, hearty meal, which I enjoyed with a nice glass of Comte Alexandre, the house red. For dessert I had a hot chocolate fondant with a melting middle, served with chocolate and raspberry fondant ice cream. I demolished it in about 5 seconds, it was scrummy!
We all enjoyed our two courses plus drinks, which came to £20 per person thanks to the voucher. Afterwards, we called into The Queen’s Arms pub just next door for drinks. The cocktails were amazing. I would definitely go back to both places again, we had such a good night!
