Pastry Chef Julie Christie-Mooney might be bad-tempered when she’s baking, but she’s lovely the rest of the time. In fact, she’s one of my best friends! I’ve sampled her amazing cakes many times, but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to visit her cafe Bad Tempered Baker, which she runs with her husband Chris in Leith. Usually I’m unable to get to Leith on weekdays when they are open, but for once I was working close enough that I was able to call in for lunch.
The cafe has a nice, relaxed atmosphere and there’s loads of choice in both savoury and sweet foods. I had a cup of tea and a very tasty Chilli Chicken Panini in the small seating area by the window. I finished up with a seriously yummy Cheesecake Brownie – combining two of my favourite things. Honestly, Julie’s cakes are the BEST!
In addition to the breakfasts, lunches, sweet treats, smoothies, teas and coffees, they also do celebration cakes made to order. We got one recently for a family birthday and it was beautiful both to look at and taste. They also do a stall once a month at Stockbridge Market.
I had a great time at Bad Tempered Baker catching up with Julie and Chris and enjoying a delicious lunch. Go and see for yourself – they are open weekdays 08.30 til 16.00. Everything is freshly made, high quality and reasonably priced .. and I promise they are really friendly. I wish I could visit more often!
