Merry Christmas! I hope you’ve all been enjoying the festive break, as we have. The city is so magical at this time of year. My daughter has just turned three and is getting to the stage where she can really enjoy the lights, fairground rides and attractions properly. It’s also our son’s first ever Christmas, so a very special time for us.
Yesterday we had a family day in town and stopped for lunch at ASK Italian on Shandwick Place. We tend to favour these family-friendly type chains at the moment, because the food is usually good, the service is quick and friendly and they have the facilities and space for bringing young children along.
On this occasion we fancied pizza. My husband and I both ordered from the Prima Pizza menu. These are the restaurant’s premium pizzas, stone baked with longer, crispier bases and featuring speciality toppings. I chose the Pollo Piccante Con Pancetta (topped with chicken, pancetta, roasted red peppers, red chillies, mushrooms, spinach, rosemary and cheese). I was really impressed with my pizza. The base was light and crispy and the toppings were fresh and tasty.
As it’s Christmas, I just had to get dessert and the Honeycomb Cheesecake sounded too good to miss. Although the restaurant was quiet, we were waiting quite a long time for dessert to arrive. When it came, my cheesecake was warm and had actually melted in places. So I think it had been sitting under lights in the kitchen for too long. Really I should have sent it back, but we were ready to leave by that point.
Apart from the warm cheesecake, we all enjoyed our meals at ASK Italian. We had a voucher for 25% off food and the bill came to £45 in total, which we thought was reasonable. The staff were really friendly and helpful too. Great place for family dining!
