Yesterday I went for Afternoon Tea with my friend to Eteaket on Frederick Street. I’ve never had Afternoon Tea before so was really looking forward to it. When we arrived first impressions were good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had my little girl with me, so they showed us to a table at the back of the tea room with plenty of space for the buggy.
The tea room has a nice modern style, but with a vintage feel. They have been open for about 5 years now and I’m not sure if they’ve re-decorated in that time, but it did look like it could do with a bit of a refresh. Having said that, it was still a very pleasant place to be.
We ordered the ‘eteaket Famous Afternoon Tea’ for two, which comes with tea and sandwiches of choice, a freshly baked scone each with clotted cream and strawberry jam and a selection of mini cakes and pastries.
A waitress quickly served us our fresh leaf tea, which was really delicious and the pot seemed to be bottomless. I got a loads of cups out of it! She brought an egg timer with the tea pots. This told us the correct time to remove the leaves from the pot. I thought this was a very good idea.
The sandwiches and cakes came shortly afterwards. Everything was well presented, very tasty and in generous portions. We were absolutely stuffed, but managed to finish almost everything. I brought some sandwiches and fruit from home for my daughter as she is often fussy when we go out for food and the staff were fine with this, but she also enjoyed some of our cakes.
We were there for about 2 hours in total and had a really nice relaxing time. Afternoon Tea was £15 per person, which is very reasonable in comparison to other places in Edinburgh. I would definitely recommend a visit.
