Scotch Whisky Experience
Address: 354 Castlehill, Edinburgh, EH1 2NE
Whisky is the national drink of Scotland, known in Gaelic as ‘uisge beatha’ which means ‘water of life’. Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for hundreds of years, so no visit to the country is complete without sampling a wee dram or two. For a taste of Scotland, visit The Scotch Whisky Experience – home to the world’s largest collection of Scotch Whisky. Here you’ll learn all about the whisky distillation process and enjoy a tipple for yourself.
The Scotch Whisky Experience is not an actual whisky distillery, but it is great introduction to the world of whisky. Tours, complete with whisky tasting, are available all day, every day. Led by expert guides, they offer a sensory journey into the world of whisky, located on the Royal Mile, close to Edinburgh Castle.
5 things to do at the Scotch Whisky Experience
- Take an exciting whisky barrel ride through a replica Scotch Whisky distillery.
- Try a dram of Scotch Malt Whisky, with an introduction to whisky tasting. Experts are on hand to teach you about the intricate flavours and aromas and will even match a Scotch Whisky to your own palate. Younger visitors may sample Scotland’s other national drink, Irn Bru!
- View the largest collection of Scotch Whisky in the world. Put together by Brazilian collector Claive Vidiz and now owned by whisky manufacturer Diageo. Over 3,500 individual bottles of whisky is quite a sight to behold.
- After the tour, put your new whisky tasting skills to the test at the Whisky Bar, which stocks over 400 different single malts, blends and liqueurs.
- Enjoy some fine Scottish cuisine in the attraction’s award winning Amber Restaurant, where they offer a great whisky and food matching service.
