Auld Reekie Tours has been leading visitors through Edinburgh’s underground vaults since 1995. Welcoming guests from around the world, they offer a wide variety of immersive tours that uncover the city’s dark past. With the exception of modern lighting and handrails for safety, the vaults remain largely unchanged since the 1700s. The company takes its name from Edinburgh’s nickname, Auld Reekie, which means, Old Smoky. The meeting point for most Auld Reekie Tours is the Tourist Information and Dungeons Police Box, located outside 300 Lawnmarket on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, opposite Deacon Brodie’s Tavern. Please note, due to the historic nature of the underground vaults, tours involve steep steps and narrow winding staircases and are therefore unsuitable for wheelchairs. The experiences are not recommended for young children, and there are specific age restrictions for each tour. All under 15s must be accompanied by an adult.
